Hello Harmon Bloggers!

Hey Everyone...Decided we'd better get to blogging again. So here's news from the apartment. I have reached several conclusions after being an apartment dweller for better than six months now...1- I hate the smell of other people's food cooking filtered through walls. 2-Apartment kitchens are not designed for people who do things. (at least this one isn't) 3 - I am craving space.

These are simply observations and not complaints as I am trying not to. Complain that is. Decided that this is a good thing...I'm finding out what my tolerances are. In the mean time there's been many generous friends this summer who've kept us supplied with fruits and veg, both to eat and to make jelly. The freezers are bursting with fruit and juice and I'd better get to making as the first craft fair (signed up for six) is the last weekend in October. There's been tremendous fruit this year and it's darned hard to refuse offers to pick. John's new mantra is "the freezers are full, the freezers are full..." But he went to Kansas to work this morning, so I went out to a friends house on the edge of town and picked a bucket of red raspberries, a bucket of white peaches and two buckets of wild plums. I just keep squeezing them in! Got two juicers full of humungous crab apples Friday night that made the prettiest juice, and another friend delivered two dishpans of big apples yesterday. I did have pretty good luck with the tomatoes in galvanized buckets outside our windows.

I really enjoyed my trip to O'Neill in June too! I had a ball. Thanks to all the Harmons there! It's good being a Harmon! A special thanks to Sherry and Dave for letting me "live" in the country for a bit. Was sorry John missed out on that one, by the end of June, he was feeling bad enough that we ended up in the emergency room one night...that turned out to be a kidney stone. A week later he saw a doctor in Lincoln for colitis, and a few prescriptions later he started to feel better. Pretty much back to normal now, we are glad for that.

Seems like we spent most of our summer evenings in front of the TV (that sounds pathetic) watching the Olympics into the wee hours, then the US Open. I was glad football started right after or I might have had withdrawal.

John and I ran over to the state fair on a beautiful Thursday night (outdoor concert) to hear the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (they are still terrific!) and Annie and I got to go to the football game in Lincoln last Saturday night...we had fun. Haven't been anywhere else this summer, so am anxious to hear about everyone else's trips.

I will be heading to Atlanta for a few days in mid-October for work. Looking forward to that except it landed on the same week as the Lincoln Libraries Book Sale. Could this be providential? We had a garage sale in August with Mom and Dad and I did sell all of the books I put on it (all seven of them). Well, ok, two of them were cookbooks, one was cross stitch patterns, and two were freebie planner-like things from the insurance company...But I did sell two real books! And I haven't bought any since July (only three for me, and one for Dad, and one for Annie...Really!) Have a nice list for birthday and Christmas though...

Annie said she will help me with putting pictures in my blog next time. We did finally get a faster computer so the internet is much more useable now and I'm learning a bit more about using it.

Where Are They Now??? Do you guys remember the teddy bear Grandma Harmon made from the yardage where the pattern is printed on the fabric and you cut it out and stitch it together? I found him a couple weeks ago in one of my forays into what's supposed to be the second bedroom! Complete with his green checked overalls. I'd forgotten about him but it was good to see him again. His stuffing is a little hard and he has an sizeable ink spot on his head, must've been from a post-us generation, but for a fifty plus bear he looks pretty good. And a real treat--while I was searching for garage sale possibilities I found the one, the only, the original, circus character Old Maid Card Game. All the cards are there, and all of the sudden I was back in Bassett sitting on the floor in the coat closet playing cards. Like I said, it's good being a Harmon!

OK, it's 6-3 Green Bay, but Dallas is threatening and I'd better start peeling apples. So will be checking soon for more new posts! Hi to all...

Love, Suz
